Field manual
How many people are actually playing?
Team17 doesn't publish a player-count API, and we tested pulling Steam's numbers straight into this page ourselves — blocked by CORS, confirmed on launch day. So instead of faking a live widget, this page gives you the numbers that are actually true right now, plus the exact links to check the real live count yourself.
Battle size, role count and map count are copied from the official Steam store listing, not estimated.
Is there a live player-count number?
Not on this page, and not honestly anywhere third-party — Valve doesn't expose a public per-game concurrent-player API that a static site can call directly from the browser; we confirmed the direct fetch fails with a CORS error rather than pretend it works. The two places that actually track this live, straight from Steam's own data:
- SteamCharts — dedicated concurrent-player history and graph for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam specifically.
- Steam's own "Most Played" chart — Valve's official live ranking of the top 100 games by current players.
Where Vietnam stood at our last check
Snapshot only — treat this as "last time we looked," not live. Four checks so far, close enough together to show the trend rather than just one point in time — and spread across different hours of the day, since concurrent players swing a lot with the clock:
- Aug 14, 2026 ~20:15 UTC (≈28h post-launch): #1 on Steam's live Top Sellers chart (by revenue), ahead of Marvel Rivals (#2) and Counter-Strike 2 (#3). On the Most Played chart (by concurrent players): #73, tagged "NEW," with 22,741 concurrent players and a same-day peak of 30,267.
- Aug 15, 2026 ~08:20 UTC (≈40h post-launch): #2 on Top Sellers — Counter-Strike 2 moved into #1, Vietnam still holds a top-3 spot. On Most Played, it had dropped out of the Top 100 entirely. SteamCharts' own per-game page was returning a server error at check time, so we don't have an exact concurrent number for this snapshot — flagging the outage rather than guessing a figure.
- Aug 17, 2026 ~01:20 UTC (≈81h post-launch): #3 on Top Sellers — still a top-3 revenue spot four days out. Back inside the Most Played Top 100 at #54, tagged "NEW," with 24,122 concurrent players and a same-day peak of 27,855 (read directly off Steam's own chart). SteamCharts corroborates with a close independent number: 23,521 players an hour before this check, 27,630 24-hour peak.
- Aug 17, 2026 ~20:20 UTC (≈100h post-launch): #8 on Top Sellers — down from top-3 but still inside the top 10 on revenue four days out. On Most Played: #85, with 16,970 concurrent players and a same-day peak of 27,693 (read directly off Steam's own chart). SteamCharts corroborates: 17,053 players an hour before this check, 27,630 for both the 24-hour and all-time peak. This check lands close to the same hour as the very first one three days earlier (Aug 14 ~20:15 UTC, 22,741 concurrent) — a same-time-of-day comparison, which removes the daily up-and-down swing as a factor and points to a real decline over the launch week rather than just a different point in the daily cycle.
- Aug 19, 2026 ~08:15 UTC (≈6 days post-launch): dropped out of the Most Played Top 100 entirely — rank 100 that day required 9,519 concurrent players, and SteamCharts' own numbers for Vietnam (below) are under that bar. Still #12 on Top Sellers — down from #8 two days earlier but still a top-15 revenue spot. SteamCharts: 5,200 players an hour before this check, 18,101 24-hour peak, 27,630 all-time peak (unchanged from the Aug 17 checks), 14,482 average over the last 30 days. This is the first snapshot to fall out of the concurrent-players Top 100 — a further step down from Aug 17's decline, though Top Sellers holding at #12 shows new purchases haven't dropped nearly as fast as concurrent play.
- For scale, at the first check #1 on Most Played was Counter-Strike 2 at just over 1M concurrent. The closest 50v50-scale tactical-shooter comparison, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, has averaged only ~320 concurrent players over the last 30 days on SteamCharts.

How big was the launch-day spike?
Team17's own words, from their Aug 14 launch-day blog: "We've already seen almost three times the number of concurrent players compared to Hell Let Loose's all-time peak." That's an official comparison, not a number — but independent tracking reported by TechTimes (citing ThePCEnthusiast) put Aug 13 launch-day concurrent Steam players above 30,000, alongside beta context of 352,000 peak participants and a beta daily-active-user high of 184,000.

Last verified Aug 19, 2026 ~08:15 UTC — added the 5th snapshot: Vietnam has dropped out of Steam's Most Played Top 100 for the first time (full 100-row chart read directly, confirmed absent; rank 100 needed 9,519 concurrent that day), cross-checked against SteamCharts' own live figures (5,200/hr-ago, 18,101 24h peak) which are consistent with being below that cutoff. Top Sellers rank read directly off Steam's live chart (#12). No live API exists client-side (CORS confirmed blocked), so standing/ranking figures above are manually re-checked snapshots, not real-time; use the SteamCharts and Steam Most Played links for the number right now.
